Postdoctoral researchers are some of the major driving forces of research at SPS. After completing doctoral training at top universities and research institutes in China and abroad, these young scientists will possess great potential to make groundbreaking scientific discoveries. Building a talent pipeline of postdocs talents is essential to enriching SPS's research teams. Currently, we have 23 postdocs working on a wide range of research topics in various PI labs.

“Tsinghua University has globally advanced protein and drug research platforms and excellent academic environment in terms of research talents and facilities. SPS is a newly built school but provides strong academic atmosphere in various aspects, including group research discussion and journal club, biweekly departmental academic salon, lectures/seminars from invited research experts as well as ample chances to attend pertinent international conference. Thank to my postdoc supervisor, Prof. Feng QIAN, who is open-minded and has stringent academic spirit, I was encouraged to explore freely. With multiple years’ experience in big pharma, Prof. Qian has impressive perspective on the practical needs of pharmaceutical formulations and foresight on research frontiers that profoundly affected me. My current project is about the formulation of monoclonal antibodies in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson (US), which involves protein-excipients/material interaction understanding, new formulation development and characterization. I enjoy my work at SPS as I am solving practical industrial problems while investigating research projects of my own interests. This experience not only makes full use of my research expertise but endorse my interests and career planning.”

“The diverse presence and the very specific bio-responses of carbohydrates in all living organisms requires scientists to synthesize the precise structure of these carbohydrates for various studies on glycosience. Although considerable efforts have been devoted to the syntheses of these carbohydrates, it is hampered by the inherent diversity in composition as well as stereochemistry of glycosidic bonds. Very few approaches were able to offer the sole α-or β-glycosylated products. Without doubt, the ultimate success hinges on the efficient construction of these optically pure pyranone precursors often used as building blocks in carbohydrates synthesis. Here at Prof. Wang's lab, we have developed a novel non-enzymatic enantioselective NHC-catalyzed dynamic kinetic resolution strategy to make enantioenriched pyranone synthons. The ease of installation and stability, which enantioenriched pyranones could offer, makes it an excellent universal donor for carbohydrate syntheses.”
