Academics | Tsinghua-Scripps Joint PhD Degree Program

On September 25th, 2016, QIU Yong, President of Tsinghua University, and Peter G. Schultz, CEO of the Scripps Research Institute signed an agreement in San Diego, California to establish a Joint PhD Degree Program in biomedical research. The program delivers creative and stringent doctoral training, leveraging advantages and resources from both institutions to collaboratively cultivate future biomedical scientists with significant cross-disciplinary backgrounds and global perspectives. The program will enhance the international influence of Tsinghua University and its related disciplines, and make an important contribution to improving global health. After the signing of the agreement, Tsinghua University becomes the second university in the world to conduct a Joint PhD Program with the Scripps Research Institute, alongside the University of Oxford.


Tsinghua-Scripps Joint PhD Degree Program is organized and administered by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Tsinghua University. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Medicine and the Department of Chemistry of Tsinghua University and the Scripps Research Institute will jointly participate in the selection of outstanding students in biomedicine and in related fields. The student who completes this program and meets the degree requirements will be awarded a Joint PhD degree by Tsinghua University and the Scripps Research Institute.
