Research | Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine aims to restore normal tissue function by replacing injured tissues with healthy ones via cell-based therapy or induction of endogenous reparative/regenerative processes. This "next evolution of medical treatments" holds tremendous promise for the treatment of various human diseases and will be critical in addressing many unmet medical needs of China's rapidly aging population.

Tsinghua University founded the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (ISCBRM) in 2014. The Institute provides resources and support for researchers to advance innovative stem cell research in China and further aims to become a global leader in this field.

The Institute focuses on key areas in regenerative medicine, including stem cell biology in normal and diseased tissues, tissue development and regeneration, and cell/tissue engineering. The Institute's work spans a wide spectrum of fundamental science, translational research and clinical application to develop new therapeutic approaches to treat diseases and injures. We endeavour to propel China's nascent regenerative medicine industry and increase its overall competitiveness globally, which will make significant contributions to the country's healthcare.

Dr. Sheng Ding, Dean of SPS, also serves as Director of ISCBRM. In addition to our current research team of more than ten Principle Investigators (PIs) across multiple Schools and Departments within the University, the Institute will continue to recruit and cultivate global talent to form a strong team with exceptional capabilities in research and development.
